2025 marks the first year the PUP Student Regent Selection Code takes effect. Authored by 18th Student Regent Miss Kim Modelo, the Code seeks to institutionalize a more “democratized” pursuit of genuine student representation of more than 90,000 Iskolar ng Bayan in the Board of Regents (BOR), the highest governing body of the university.

MARCH 22, 2025 | 6:58 PM - SR Modelo authors PUP’s first-ever student regent election code
The first-ever PUP Student Regent Selection Code in the history of the university has been passed by the Alyansa ng Nagkakaisang Konseho ng Politeknikong Unibersidad ng Pilipinas (ANAK PUP) 24th Congress on March 16, 2025.
Authored by SR Miss Kim Modelo, the Code delineates a more "democratized" election of the Student Regent (SR), the sole representative of PUP students in the Board of Regents. Headed by the incumbent SR, a Search Committee is established comprising of the incumbent members of ANAK PUP Executive Committee, a Secretariat team headed by the Secretary of the ANAK PUP election committee, and a Creative Team tasked with publishing necessary information to the public during the selection process.
For the first time, the selection process is not only exclusive to student council (SC) presidents as it has enabled the studentry to nominate from a pool of SC presidents across the PUP system.
Qualifications for SR Selection nominees are the following: must be a Filipino citizen, a bona fide student of the university with one-year residency, and currently serving as a student council (SC) or government president in any unit of the university. It also affirms that no nominees shall be disqualified on the grounds of academic standing.
Within a one-week Call for Nominations, any individual student or student formations, except those from student publications, may nominate a qualified student for the regency via an online nomination form to be cascaded by the Search Committee. The form shall seek for the following information:
• Date of the Nomination
• Name and Designation of the Nominee
• Reasons and/or Basis for the Nomination
• Name and Signature of the Student Nominating
The Search Committee will then inform the person nominated within 24 hours upon receipt of the nomination. They will have the right to accept or decline the nomination. Those who accept the nomination will be asked to submit certain requirements to formalize their official nomination.
In a ten-day period, the Code allows any form of campaign by the nominees given that it does not violate university rules and the Student Handbook.
Endorsements by students, student formations, and PUP-affiliated leaders from outside the university are also allowed; However, incumbent student council presidents are prohibited to do so to ensure impartiality as they will be voting during the ANAK PUP convention.
Selection proper will be held during the ANAK PUP General Assembly's First Semestral Convention which entails the reading of this Code, Presentation of Vision Statement of the student regency nominee, a Miting De Avance or question-and-answer portion, and the voting of incumbent student council presidents. The Code also emphasizes that there is no abstention in the voting process given that "the selection process is already democratized."
Prior to the existence of the Code, it can be remembered that the past student regent elections were marred with anomalities, such as muting incidents and alleged admin interventions under the former SR Wilhelm Provido. The selection process was then salvaged upon the takeover of President Pro Tempore and College of Education (COED) SC Janssen Dela Peña who presided over the Congress, marking a leap in the struggle for pursuit of genuine student representation in the BOR.
This year's ANAK PUP is reportedly eyed around April.

MARCH 22, 2025 | 9:50 PM - ANAK PUP releases SR selection calendar, First Semester Convention
The Alyansa ng Nagkakaisang Konseho ng PUP (ANAK PUP) releases Resolution No. 8, s. 24th Congress on Saturday, March 22, setting the schedule for the 19th Student Regent Selection and the federation-alliance's First Semestral Convention.
The selection period will run from March 26 to April 26, 2025, starting with nominations and ending with a systemwide deliberation.
Meanwhile, the First Semestral Convention will take place from April 24 to 26 to discuss student policies.
This marks the first-ever PUP SR selection proper with a Student Regent Selection Code (SR SC) in effect, formalizing the process of choosing the student body’s representative in the highest governing body of PUP.

MARCH 27, 2025 | 8:46 AM - One-week nomination of SC presidents opened
Nominations for the 19th Student Regent are now up from March 26 until April 1, 11:59 PM, as per the Alyansa ng Nagkakaisang Konseho (ANAK) PUP.
With the newly established Student Regent Selection Code (SR SC), individual students and student formations can now nominate from the 40 student council presidents in the PUP system to run as the next Student Regent, the sole representation of students in the university's Board of Regents.
However, they do not have voting power during the systemwide deliberation as only student council presidents can vote for the next SR and ANAK PUP Executive Committee.

APRIL 1, 2025 | 9:38 PM - EXPLAINER | Decoding the ‘historic Student Regent Selection Code
For two years, the transition of PUP Student Regent (SR) has been marred with anomalies such as delaying tactics, unwanted presences of two unnamed secretariats, and muting incidents, derailing the sanctity of the selection.
On April 26, PUP will be selecting its 19th Student Regent. The Student Regent Selection Code sets a precedent for formalized and organized transitions that safeguard genuine student representation.

APRIL 2, 2025 | 12:55 AM - 28 valid nominations garnered over one-week nomination period
Nominations for the #PUPSR19 are now closed as per the Alyansa ng Nagkakaisang Konseho (ANAK) PUP.
According to the federation-alliance, the Search Committee received 28 valid nominations awaiting acceptance of nominees.
In addition, the official list of nominees will be released on April 9 with the voting proper set to happen on April 26, 2025 at the PUP Manila Campus.

Ngayon, hamon para sa bagong uupo sa 25th ANAK Fed at magiging ika-19 na student regent, siguruhing hindi na muli mauulit ang mga ito. Kahit mas matimbang ang nagawang nakabuti sa pamantasan, hindi ito pahintulot para makatakas sa pananagutan. APRIL 3, 2025 | 12:52 PM - PUP SRC SC prexy Leo Abonita, tinanggihan ang nominasyon sa pagka-SR
Opisyal na tinanggihan ni Leo Abonita, pangulo ng PUP Sta. Rosa Campus (SRC) Student Council, ang kanyang nominasyon bilang ika-19 na Student Regent ng Politeknikong Unibersidad ng Pilipinas (PUP).
Sa kanyang pahayag, nagpasalamat si Abonita sa tiwala ng mga nag-nominate sa kanya ngunit piniling huwag tanggapin ang nominasyon. Bilang isang graduating student, mas nais niyang ituon ang kanyang oras sa paglilingkod sa PUP SRC at sa kanyang personal na mga tunguhin.
“Mahal ko ang paglilingkod sa kapwa ko mag-aaral, at naniniwala ako na ang tunay na representasyon ay nagmumula sa isang lider na may sapat na oras, kakayahan, at kahandaang gampanan ang mabigat na responsibilidad ng pagiging Student Regent,” ani Abonita.
Sa kabila ng kanyang desisyon, nangako siyang patuloy na susuporta sa sinumang mahahalal bilang Student Regent at hinikayat ang pagpapatuloy ng mga adhikain para sa kapakanan ng lahat ng PUPians.
Mananatiling bukas ang confirmation at declination period ng Student Regent selection hanggang Abril 8.

APRIL 3, 2025 | 2:13 PM - CTHTM SC Krystel Joy Forjes declines SR nomination
PUP CTHTM Student Council President Krystel Joy Forjes officially declined her nomination as the next Student Regent, making her the second nominee of the initial eight to decline.
According to Forjes's statement on her Facebook account on Thursday, April 3, she already informed colleagues that she is "not prepared and qualified for the position," stating that being a Student Regent requires a leader who has the proper skills, time, and dedication to sacrifice for the greater good.
"Hindi ito isang pagpapakita ng kakulangan ng tiwala sa sarili, kundi isang malalim na pag-unawa sa bigat ng tungkulin ng Student Regent. Ang posisyong ito ay hindi isang simpleng pagkakataon; ito ay isang responsibilidad na may malalim na epekto sa bawat mag-aaral, at hindi ito isang desisyon na dapat ipasa lamang sa pagkakataon, o isang posisyon na dapat tanggapin nang hindi buo ang kahandaan."
Forjes added that she believes that other nominees are more capable and more willing to accept the heavy responsibility of being the Student Regent and will extend her full support and respect to the winner.

APRIL 8, 2025 | 10:46 PM - PUP Biñan CSC prexy Kenn Aldrin Tabusao, pangatlong initial nominee na tumanggi sa pagka-SR
Dalawang oras bago magsara ang pagtanggap sa nominasyon ay tinanggihan ni PUP Biñan CSC President Kenn Aldrin Tabusao ang hamong tumakbo bilang rehente.
"Bagama't ako na lamang po ang natitirang nominado na [nagmula] sa labas ng PUP Main, buong loob po nating ipinapagkatiwala sa mga [taga-Main] Campus ang opisina ng rehente, dahil naniniwala po tayo na mas may kakayahan silang gampanan ang tungkulin na nakaatang sa opisina," aniya sa isang Facebook post.
Sa kasalukuyan, lima na lamang ang natitirang nominado para sa pagka-rehente matapos tumanggi nina Leo Abonita ng PUP Sta. Rosa at ni Krystel Joy Forjes ng CTHTM sa nasabing posisyon.
Opisyal na magsasara ang pagtanggap sa nominasyon mamayang alas-dose ng madaling araw.

APRIL 8, 2025 | 12:32 AM - SKM prexy Tiffany Faith Brillante, CCIS SC prexy JP Azusano tinanggihan ang SR nomination
Ilang minuto bago magtapos ang pagtanggap sa nominasyon, opisyal na tinanggihan nina Sentral na Konseho ng Mag-aaral (SKM) President Tiffany Faith Brillante at College of Computer and Information Sciences Student Council (CCIS SC) President John Paul “JP” Azusano ang nominasyon ng 19th Student Regent.
“We have always stood firm in our commitment to fight for education, rights, and justice—not just for ourselves but for the broader Filipino masses whose struggles mirror our own. But for now, with utmost humility, I respectfully decline the nomination for the position of 19th Student Regent of our University,” ani Brillante sa kaniyang pahayag.
Samantala, sinabi naman ni Azusano sa kaniyang Facebook post na sa ngayon ay pipiliin muna niyang paglaanan ng buong lakas ang paglilingkod sa kaniyang pinanggalingang kolehiyo, kung saan marami pa umanong hamong pang-akademiko ang dapat na masolusyunan.
“Sa kabilang banda, hindi tayo rito matatapos. Ang paglilingkod at pakikibaka ay walang hangganan. Sa lansangan man o sa loob ng silid-aralan, sa lokal na kolehiyo man o sa buong unibersidad, patuloy ang pagtangan nang mahigpit sa pagsusulong ng ating mga kampanya't ipinaglalaban,” dagdag ni Azusano.

Matapos ang isang linggong nominasyon, dalawang pangulo sa walong nominado ang tumugon sa hamong maging tulay ng sangkaestudyantehan sa pagsulong ng interes at karapatan nito sa administrasyon at sa mas malawak na konteksto ng lipunan.
Naging matagal man at malubak ang laban para sa tunay na representasyon, tagumpay pa ring nakamit ito ng mga Iskolar ng Bayan noong 2024. Mula rito, unti-unting binuo ang isang Office of the Student Regent (OSR), bagamat hindi perpekto, na mas bukas at naging katuwang sa pagpapatibay ng demokratikong karapatan.
Ngunit hindi lamang sa loob ng paaralan natatapos ang laban ng mga Iskolar. Isa sa maraming labang nilalahukan nito ang pagtaguyod sa aksesable at dekalidad na edukasyon para sa lahat—sa gitna ng isang pambihirang pagkakataon kung saan ang mamamayan ay naiipit sa girian ng dalawang dinastiyang inuuna lamang ang sariling interes.

Sa darating na ANAK PUP First Semestral Convention sa Abril 26, isa sa kanila ang maitatalagang ika-19 PUP Student Regent na tanging kinatawan ng higit 95,000 Iskolar ng Bayan sa Board of Regents, ang pinakamataas na policy-making body ng PUP.
Iskolar ng Bayan, ituon ang lente sa dalawang kandidato sa pagkarehente: sina Michael Dave Bolima ng Open University System (OUS) at Troy Cabangon ng College of Political Science and Public Administration (CPSPA).
APRIL 17, 2025 | 12:21 AM - SR campaign period moved to April 21-23
PUP Student Regent Selection Search Committee officially moves the remaining dates of the SR campaign period, following a petition letter from SR nominees Troy Cabangon and Michael Dave Bolima seeking to adjust timeframe to April 21-23 from its supposed dates, April 17-19.
According to the letter, the remaining dates of the campaign period coincide with the Lenten season, which the nominees argue could result in decreased student engagement in the selection process.
“Inaasahan naming bababa talaga ang partisipasyon ng mga estudyante sa mga aktibidad ng kampanya, lalo na ‘yong mga isinasagawa nang pisikal… Dahil mahalaga ang isang bukas, masinsinan, at makabuluhang kampanya, naniniwala kaming makatutulong nang malaki kung ia-adjust ang campaign period,” Cabangon wrote in the post.
The Search Committee temporarily suspends all campaigning activities by the nominees and their volunteers from April 17 to 19.

APRIL 25, 2025 | 3:48 PM - Day 1 of ANAK PUP First Semestral Convention kicks off
Alyansa ng Nagkakaisang Konseho (ANAK PUP) conducts the first day of its First Semestral Convention today, April 25, at the PUP Main Campus.
Before the parliamentary procedure, the convention started with an educational discussion on the status of academic freedom in the country led by the Secretary-General of National Union of Students of the Philippines (NUSP), Ceejay Bebis.
At the end of her discussion, Bebis emphasizes the rights students should fight for, including “Student rights, Adequate and Accessible University, SOGIE Bill, and Academic Freedom.”
National Spokesperson for College Editors Guild of the Philippines (CEGP), Brell Lacerna then followed the educational discussion tackling the role of the youth in the election.
According to Lacerna, among the calls of the youth to the candidates are free education, living wages, national sovereignty, agrarian reform, healthcare, and national peace.

APRIL 25, 2025 | 7:00 PM - PUP SCs call for a clean, fair, honest, and peaceful elections
As part of the educational discussion for the role of youth in the upcoming elections, student council presidents across PUP System take oath to the “Panata ng mga Kabataang Pilipino para sa Malinis, Tapat, Patas, at Mapayapang Halalan" organized by the Kabataan Tayo ang Pag-asa (KTAP).
Furthermore, council presidents also signed a petition to call for a clean, fair, honest, and peaceful elections.
