Jemilee Jade Milca from Bachelor in Advertising and Public Relations (BAPR) 3-2D was hailed grand champion in COC Idols’ 13th season with the theme "Glint: Sparkling Stories, Soaring Dreams," at the Tanghalang PUP, Monday, July 31.
This marks the comeback of the annual singing competition since the last season in 2019, organized by the PUP COC Ensemble.
With the entries submitted to PUP COC Ensemble, 11 finalists stepped foot on the stage to perform their solo pieces in Round 1, ‘Who am I?’ Given the criteria for judging, six out of 11 finalists were chosen to move forward to the next round.
In Round 2: ‘To Be Seen,' to test their vocal versatility, the finalists were asked prior to pick one from the genre bowl to help them step out of their comfort zone.
The top three contenders were selected to move to the third and final round, ‘This Is Me,' singing their own song composition about their journey and their story using an instrumental given to all finalists.
Milca dedicates a message for her younger self conveyed through a beautiful song that delivered her reign as this year’s grand champion.
Finalists Jeffrey Dacuyan of Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Communication (BABr) 1-3D earned the first runner-up place, while Karla Sumulong of BABr 3-1D took the second runner-up place.
Dacuyan also garnered the COC Idol Social Media Star Award after garnering more than 3,000 votes in the PUP COC Ensemble Facebook post.
Meanwhile, COC Dean Hemmady S. Mora, in her closing remarks, shared her aspiration for the event and congratulated the contestants, and the organizers for bracing such competition.
“I’m so happy na natuloy din siya sa wakas. Kasi, officially, this is a comeback. Ngayon pa lang uli nagkaroon ng on-site na COC Idols after a long period of time na hindi tayo nagkita-kita face-to-face. And, we hope na this will go on and on and on for the following years dahil napakaraming talent sa COC. Kitang-kita naman na maraming mahuhusay na singers,” said Mora.
COC Idols is an annual tradition that aims to showcase COCians' love and skill for music whilst also helping them reach their full potential and unleash their innate creativity.
