Years after its conception, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines’ Education on Wheels (PUP EOW) program under the Open University System (OUS) extended its reach as it catered its first physical-on-bus meeting in Payatas, Quezon City, on Wednesday, January 17.
PUP’s EOW program aims to bring quality education directly to communities by conducting face-to-face classes in the university’s classroom-converted bus under a hybrid mode of learning setup.
The program is a collaboration between the university and a non-government organization of the locality or community where PUP brings education on wheels.
In Payatas, PUP EOW is in partnership with BARON Philippines, a local non-profit organization, to identify, evaluate, and recommend potential beneficiaries of EOW.
The EOW program offers a BS in Office Administration aligned with the university calendar, where students start their classes synchronously and asynchronously, simultaneous with the traditional learning setup back in September 2023.
The air-conditioned university bus housed 35 BS Office Administration students, with three instructors and professors who conducted three different classes in four hours in EOW’s expansion in Payatas.
Along with Payatas, students from Tatalon, Quezon City, have also welcomed the university bus this week in their first physical classes under the EOW program of PUP.
Following the initial EOW sessions in Quezon City, the university bus is expected to regularly visit the Payatas and Tatalon neighborhoods every Wednesday and Thursday to conduct weekly in-person classes.
There are also third-year students of BS Office Administration under PUP’s EOW program who are having classes in Tondo, Manila, every Friday.
