PUP College of Communication Student Council (COC SC) launched the Paaralang Luis V. Teodoro (PLVT), an initiative aimed at strengthening students’ understanding of communication education and pressing societal issues.

Held at the COC Audio-Visual Room (AVR) on April 30, PLVT serves as an alternative learning school within COC. The program is open to all COCian students seeking to engage in discussions beyond the traditional classroom setting.
PUP COCSC Vice President Martha Bernadette Briol shared in her opening speech the reason behind establishing the PLVT.
“Bakit nga ba hindi natin itatag ‘yung isang alternatibong paaralan na nagsusulong at maipa[ki]kilala ang isang nationalistic, scientific, and mass-oriented type of education na labas pa sa kung ano ‘yung tinuturo sa atin sa loob ng klasrum?” said Briol.
Meanwhile, SAMASA COC Vice-Chairperson Lorin Lei Rivera highlighted the lack of adequate academic spaces, as well as the ongoing climate and transportation crises, and called for increased funding for the university.
Panday Sining - COC Chairperson Faye Daphne Parales, on the other hand, spoke about the role of Arts and Literature as part of the revolution and fighting for the masses.
“Bilang mga artista ng bayan, lilikha ba tayo ng mapagpalayang sining? Hindi natin hinihiwalay ang sining sa pagsusulong ng pagbabago ng lipunan dahil ang ating natural na talento sa sining ay tunay na uusbong sa iba’t ibang porma,” Parales stated.
As an active youth leader, Kabataan Partylist PUP Chairperson Jhon Dinglasan believes that aside from academic responsibility, they are shaped to lead and serve more young people to become organized and aware of societal issues.
Closing the event, PUP COCSC General-Secretary Cheska Pulido urged student-leaders to engage with the masses, asserting that true education is found in serving the people and learning from their experiences.
Learn through PLVT
PLVT is named after Luis V. Teodoro, founding chairperson of Altermidya, a professor, journalist, and press freedom advocate. To honor his notable work and to continue the legacy he established in the media, PLVT will offer the following curriculum:
Societal and Youth Studies
Media and Communication Studies
Leadership and Organizing Studies
The program seeks to strengthen the youth’s understanding of their role in society, enhance communication skills in serving the masses, and cultivate leadership abilities both within and beyond the campus.
Following the launch, PLVT officially opened on May 1. Further details regarding the training and discussions will be announced by the PUP COCSC.
