From these respective categories, journalism students unveiled their entries for newsletters, magazines, special projects, research, and data journalism during the two-day event.

The program, spearheaded by PUP Journalism Guild (JG) under the theme “Beyond the Bylines 2024: The Next Chapter Begins,” became the platform for students to show off their masterpieces, from simple academic requirements to projects well-deserving of attention from COCians.

PUP Journalism Guild President Gerie Consolacion shared how relevant Beyond the Bylines 2024 is to the journalism community for all year levels, not only as a competitive platform but also as a place to build stronger connections with each other.

“The Journalism Media Fest isn’t just a festival. It’s about lifelong learning and making a lasting impact, gradually advancing both in academia and in the community, because, after all, journalism is for the people,” Consolacion added.

Alongside the event, the much-awaited time for freshmen and sophomores arrived, as booths for their newsletter and magazine launch were set up to exhibit their original manuscripts.

Journalism students proudly presented their masterpieces for ‘The Compendium’ from BAJ 1-2N, ‘Veracity’ from BAJ 1-1D, and ‘Tanawin’ photobook from BAJ 2-1D, along with the magazines: Bloom, Segunda, and SPEC from  BAJ 2-1N.

Groups that were shortlisted for the competition also received a certificate of recognition. Moreover, several awards were given for Best Dress, Best Dancer, and Most Batch Attendees during the festival.

The newly designated dean, Dr. Jose Reuben Alagaran II, also shared some enlightening messages on how proud he was of the journalism students for their exceptional flair.

“Journalism, as we all know a dynamic and ever-revolving discipline, it is a powerful field for reporting, and inspiring the public. It is also a platform for social change and advocacies. Through this festival, we aim to showcase the best of our students’ works,” Dr. Alagaran II said in his message.
