Dakom journos dominate 4th AOCPA, crowned as ‘top campus publication’

The Communicator and its staff members emerged after bagging multiple awards at the fourth Assumption Outstanding Campus Press Awards (AOCPA) at Monsignor-Serrano Auditorium of the University of the Assumption on March 1.

The Communicator, the official student publication of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines-College of Communication (PUP-COC), was lauded for its journalistic prowess, clinching two major awards: the "Most Outstanding Campus Publication" and the "9th Most Outstanding Campus Newspaper."


Individual staff members also received stamps of approval for demonstrating excellence in different writing fields. Chris Burnet Ramos won Most Outstanding News Writer for amplifying the studentry’s stand on the National Polytechnic University Bill with his article, "NPU Bill commercializes PUP — Students."


Cathlyn Keshel de Raya was named Most Outstanding Layout Artist for her significant contribution to the publication's newsletter, while Christian John Argallon's piece, "Fear’s Not Lifted," which delved into the ongoing challenges faced by journalism, secured him the recognition of Most Outstanding Opinion Writer.


Meanwhile, Head Photojournalist Jann Conrad Bonifacio placed 2nd as the Most Outstanding Photojournalist, while Lheonel Sanchez, the Managing Editor, "Himas-rehas: Urong-sulong sa Akademikong Kalayaan," bagged the 3rd Most Outstanding Editorial Writer.


Furthermore, Chief Cartoonist Timothy Andrei Milambiling made a comeback, placing as 4th Most Outstanding Editorial Cartoonist. Pexcel John Bereber earned recognition for his literary piece, “Uninvited Guest,” securing the 7th spot for Most Outstanding Literary Writer.


Organized by Regina, the official student publication of the University of the Assumption, the AOCPA is an annual journalism competition that acknowledges outstanding accomplishments of tertiary campus journalists and student publications across Luzon.
