The Collegiate Center for Esports (CCE) collaborated with different organizations and partners as they unveiled the Philippine Collegiate Championship (PCC) in its first-ever press conference at Quezon City on May 15.
The PCC will be an interschool esports competition set to begin in July that aims to showcase top talents in the field from various colleges and universities nationwide.
The league is designed to promote education in gaming, diversity, and community development through competitive sports, tournaments, as well as provide student-athletes with a bright future where they can do what they are passionate about.
The open qualifiers will feature more than 2,000 schools joining as they clash for the top four spots in each division (NCR, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao).
The final four teams from each region will all face each other in the group stage in a round-robin setup.
The top two teams in the group stage will move on to the playoffs on a single elimination system, where Quezon City will host the finals.
Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Sports Development Director Ana Dulce Yango said that the government agency has been supporting the reopening of intercollegiate esports tournaments after the pandemic.
Yango noted that they want to promote and teach esports to student-athletes, and for it to be regulated.
"We are hoping that through CCE and the NSA (National Sports Association), we will be able to institutionalize esports. Not just as a game but as a sport. To develop our student-athletes not only to become champions in this game but also to become good citizens with good values and moral character," she said.
Apart from leagues, the CCE also plans to engage with the community through education and student development in their careers through on-campus seminars, mini festivals, and its "Masterclass" program.
The program will target 12 schools to introduce in-school activities that teach game development, an introduction to Web 3.0, content creation, and the esports ecosystem.
