MovePH highlights youth engagement in a #RapplerCommunities event

Promoting youth involvement on social issues, Rappler’s MovePH convened an onsite #RapplerCommunities event, “By the youth, for the youth: How to take action on issues within and beyond campus,” at the Rappler office on Saturday, February 17.

Joined by different organizations and schools, the event emphasized the importance of youth engagement and participation in societal causes within and beyond their campuses.

The convention featured three youth leaders who actively shared their experiences and opinions regarding youth civic participation in their organizations during the panel discussion.

Addressing challenges and getting people engaged

University of the Philippines Student Regent (UP SR) President Sofia Trinidad spoke about the current calls of their organizations and shared ways student leaders can challenge themselves to make an impact outside of their schools.

“Huwag tayong magpakulong sa loob ng pamantasan, [kasi] tayo bilang mga student leaders ay dapat lumulubog talaga sa mga komunidad na malapit sa atin,” Trinidad asserted.

Trinidad also discussed how they overcame the obstacles they faced inside the university while pursuing the campaigns they fought for.

“We do not adjust [to the rules]; we assert our space in the university,” she said.

Meanwhile, Blue Mobility President Maxine Cuartero partakes in the context of their campaign about the North Carpark issue at Ateneo De Manila University and the importance it seeks within their campus and community.

“It extends so much beyond our campus. At the end of the day, what we all want is the best for the community,” Cuartero stated.

Cuartero also emphasized acknowledging the issue’s significance and considering the community's involvement and opinions.

“It’s more on looking inward. More on mobility. We can always offer it to people or spaces involved,” she added.

On the other hand, ExplainedPH Editor-in-Chief Archie Bergosa stressed the necessity of being organized and staying connected with networks you work with while working on the objectives of the organization.

Aside from the panel discussion, a question-and-answer portion followed before the main hall activity.

The event concluded with insightful words from esteemed Rappler reporter Pia Ranada, emphasizing the crucial role of youth’s opinions and active participation in societal issues that concern them.
