Tasá Productions’ short film titled “Heads or Tails” swept off the major awards in the film screening and awarding of Film Aficionados Circle’s (FilAC) Sineminuto ‘24: Minimithing Mundo at Sine Pop Cubao on September 7, 2024.
Directed by Hannah Nicole Tomada, “Heads or Tails” follows the story of two young friends, Karl and Jaja, who promised to meet every 9th of January at their barrio’s festival whose words for each other limit over time. The short film is dedicated to the LGBTQIA+ community, especially those who are still afraid to come out.
“Heads or Tails” bagged a total of seven (7) awards including Best Picture, Best Direction, Best Screenplay, Best Production Design, Best Sound Design, Best Editing, Best Female and Male Performance for Gerlyn Claire Arreza and Sean Jemerry Anastacio respectively, and placed second for cinematography.
“Kaya kong maging direktor kahit first time ko,” Tomada said on her speech for winning Best Direction.
Vivid Productions’ “Tao Po” won second placements for picture, sound design, and screenplay. Meanwhile, Silakbo Productions’ “Sa Pag-uwi” placed third for Best Picture, and Best Cinematography, while finishing second place for editing, production design, and screenplay.
Additionally, Solaris Productions’ “Young Yupo” was awarded the Best Poster, and Balintayaan Productions’ “goodnight, baby” won second in direction.
The esteemed panel of judges is composed of prominent figures in the film industry including I Am Not Big Bird (2024) director Victor Villanueva, writer and editor Julius Renomeron Jr., Bar Boys (2017) cinematographer Eva Paz, queer filmmaker Celeste Lapida, freelance filmmaker and director Gio Potes, and producer Kim Timan.
