FEATURE | What's in your Tote Bag?: Back to Sintang Paaralan Essentials

As the country has been gradually shifting to the new normal, face-to-face classes are now back on track too. You can finally plan out your outfits and wear those piles of clothes you bought online during quarantine. Whatever “aesthetic” you’re going for, bags and purses are a staple in the everyday commute. It's time to raid our bags and raise the question—what's in your tote bag?

Bags of all shapes and sizes hold the things you need to get through the school day. Whether to keep fresh or simply be practical, it’s important to know the essential stuff to carry, so you don’t have an “uh-oh” moment on your way to school.

Alcohol & Sanitizer: Spray With Hygiene Must-Haves

A bottle of alcohol or sanitizer has been practically as necessary as your wallet since the pandemic took over. While restrictions have eased up, it’s good to remember that the health crisis is not yet completely over. It’s better to be ready than regretful and to stay safe, especially now that more people are on the go.

Face Masks: An Extra Yes to Extra Masks

Despite the mandatory wearing of face masks being lifted, wearing one is still beneficial for your own health as well as those around you. When going to crowded places or staying out all day, it’s more than useful to carry some extras just in case you lose yours.

Medicine Kit: Health is Wealth

Taking some paracetamol with you just in case is advisable. Interacting with more people means being exposed to more health risks, especially with the virus still going around; so it’s best to prevent them by having a few tablets around. Your body might also not be used to moving around as much again because of staying at home for a long time, and having painkillers with you would be a great help.

Journals & Ballpen: Save Some Stationery Supplies

Some pens and a few notebooks are a must for students. Nothing beats old-fashioned note-taking, especially when your professor allows open notes on a quiz. Don’t forget your readings too, so you’re more than prepared for a surprise recitation.

Perfume & Cologne: Be the Main Character by Smelling Great

You don’t want your classmates to smell the smoke and dirt on you, do you? Carry a bottle of perfume—even a sampler would do—to freshen up throughout the day. Scents also do a great deal for your first impression. You know what they say, nothing is more memorable than a smell.

Comb: Every day must be a Good Hair Day

It’s never a bad choice to look presentable, especially after a long time of being cooped up at home and attending classes in your pajamas. Fixing your hair a bit after the long ride to school wouldn’t take much of your time.

Handkerchief, Tissues, and Towel: Wipe Away the Heat

Commuting in the country’s hot weather can be pretty tiring and sweaty. Taking a handkerchief or a pack of tissues would come in handy to keep you dry and clean. Also, you never know when you’ll spill your drink, so it’s best to be prepared for unexpected situations.

Wallet: Cashing Out Expenses

While cashless payment methods are on the rise and becoming more prominent, it’s still best to keep some cash, both bills and coins, with you for convenience. Aside from cash, identification cards are also essential to keep in your wallet for safety purposes.

Water Bottle: Staying Hydrated

Lastly, keeping hydrated is a priority when you’re on the go. Hot weather can be physically draining, so having a bottle of water to quench your thirst can be refreshing, especially when you go back and forth between rooms for classes.

Our bags are a representation of ourselves. We carry with us the little things we use to fulfill our duties and responsibilities. From our huge, colorful trolleys back in elementary to the minimal tote bags we use now, they have always been our companions in studying. The things they hold have helped us more than we recognized; and knowing the basics can equip us and get us more ready for the shift.

Now that your bag is packed, are you ready for face-to-face classes?
