ADPR students dominate AdSpeak ‘24

Truly, the home of champions and creative minds!

Department of Advertising and Public Relations (ADPR) students garnered awards at the AdSpeak 2024: Exp at the Student Center Auditorium of Colegio de San Juan de Letran on April 24 and 25.

Francine Alexia Galleno, Aldreich Pascual, Ramier Vincent Pediangco, Emar Lorenz Samar, and Diannie Tan of BAPR 2-1N took home three titles in the Radio, TV, and Digital Ad categories and two AdSpeak Audience Choice in Advocate Awards in the Radio and Digital Ad.

“First time namin siya [competition], and we can say na worth it ‘yung last-minute shoots and revisions. Very grateful din na napasama ako sa group na ito, and we hope na itong experience will be something to look back on every time na na-dishearten kami sa mga bagay-bagay,” Pascual expressed in a chat interview.

He added that he is still “above the clouds” because of the three unexpected wins.

The group’s entry for the radio ad titled “Nanay, Tatay” highlighted same-sex parents. “Lahat ay maaaring maging ilaw at haligi ng tahanan, hindi ito mapupundi at magigiba [dahil] sa kasarian,” said in the advertisement.

The digital ad, “G ka ba?” emphasizes the continued efforts for inclusivity and safe spaces while encouraging the passage of the Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Expression (SOGIE) Equality Bill in the country.

Their TV advertisement “Eyyy… Ayyy!?” values the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI), particularly in academics, due to some students' heavy reliance on generating answers for school requirements.

Moreover, in the Print Ad entry “MVP: Most Valuable Pin,” Assumpta Gonzales, Elisa Rose Santiago, Krizelle Gagarin, Bianca Joven, and Marl Balan from BAPR 3-1D placed first, which signified that the most valuable pin is the home—a place where safe space for family members begins.

On the other hand, Coelde Dagsa, Alexa Trapero, Hannah Eliza Roque, and John Patrick Tataro of BAPR 2-2D earned the second runner-up placement in the TV Ad category with their entry piece “Rain, Rain, Go Away.”

The visual metaphors seen in the TV ad served as a reminder for parents to prioritize, nurture, and protect their children from any form of childhood trauma since their actions can influence their children in the future.

Meanwhile, “Quit Animal Abuse” values of animal welfare, especially that of stray animals and those used for experiments. The animation piece from Queenie Naelga and Josiah Aeron Jagurin of BAPR 2-2D placed second in the Digital Ad category.

Deniel Tolentino, BAPR 2-1D, Symon Bautista, Lance Casuyon, Althea Picarra, BAPR 2-2D, and Cedric Libao, BAPR 3-2D’s entry named “#Breakthecycle” was one of the Top 5 finalists for the Digital Ad category.

“#Breakthecycle” calls for Filipinos’ awareness of properly disposing of electronic waste (e-waste). Through research, they found out that the Philippines is the top producer of e-waste due to the rapid increase of technological innovations.

AdSpeak is a nationwide values-based advertising competition spearheaded by Colegio de San Juan de Letran.
